Magellan 315 GPS

Database Update

The aviation database provided by Magellan has not been updated since 2000 and it is no longer being supported by Magellan.

I have compiled  waypoint databases for Australia and New Zealand which I have converted to a form useable by the Magellan 310/315/315A/320/SporTrak series of handheld GPSs.

To load a database, you must have Magellan DataSend installed on your PC and have Magellan's PC Data Cable to connect your GPS receiver to your PC.

If you don't have the DataSend software and the Data Cable, Pilot Communications will load the data for you free of charge and usually while you wait. To contact Pilot Communications about this option phone 07 5485 3016 or email picom@tpg.com.au .

Please note I do not guarantee the accuracy of any of the waypoint data contained in this database and before using any of this waypoint data you should independently check its accuracy and suitability for your intended use.

The Australian database  is shipped in a  ZIP file called AUS_DATA_315_0911.zip and contains data compiled as at November, 2009 grouped in the following categories:

The New Zealand database  is shipped in a  ZIP file called NZ_DATA_315_0612.zip and contains data compiled as at December, 2006 grouped in the following categories:

To access the data you will need to do the following. Firstly determine the full pathname of the aviation POIs folder of your DataSend installation. This will probably be C:\ProgramFiles\DataSend\POIs.

UNZIP the file AUS_DATA_315_0911.zip (or NZ_DATA_315_0612.zip)into C:\Program Files\DataSend\POIs (or whatever your pathname is).

When you now run DataSend you should find the following extra POI categories: AUS Airport Name, AUS Airport Id, AUS Bush Strips, AUS HLS Id, AUS HLS Name, AUS VFR Waypoints, IFR Waypoints and AUS All Towns (or NZ Airport Id, NZ Airport Name, NZ Private Strips, NZ IFR Waypoints, NZ VFR Waypoints and NZ All Towns). Contact me if you have any problems getting our database to work and I will try to help you get it loaded.

You can now select which of these categories plus any of the original DataSend categories you want and download then to your GPS. Bear in mind that you are allowed a maximum of 18,220 waypoints over 10 categories. ALSO PLEASE NOTE, THE SporTrak CAN ONLY HANDLE ABOUT 16,500 WAYPOINTS. DataSend will allow you to load more than this but if you do you run the risk of corrupting the internal firmware of your SporTrak.
